When an engine needs internal repair, choosing the right kit saves time and avoids missing parts. Evergreen offers several kit types, and the right choice depends on what the inspection and measurements show.
Engine Rebuild Kit
A rebuild kit is intended for a complete overhaul. Depending on the part number, it can include pistons, rings, bearings, a full gasket set and other components such as an oil pump, timing parts or valvetrain parts. It is the right choice when the cylinders need machining, the pistons are worn or damaged, or the engine has failed.
Re-Ring Kit
A re-ring kit is designed for an engine that needs new piston rings, bearings and gaskets, while the original pistons and cylinders are still within specification. It is commonly used to correct oil consumption or low compression caused by worn rings when the cylinder walls only need honing.
Bearing Kit
A bearing kit typically combines main and rod bearings with gaskets, for engines where the bottom end needs attention but the pistons and rings do not. Confirm crankshaft journal sizes first, because a reground crankshaft requires undersize bearings.
How to Choose
- Measure cylinder bore wear, taper and out-of-round before deciding whether pistons are needed.
- Measure crankshaft journals to confirm standard or undersize bearings.
- Inspect the cylinder head, valvetrain and timing components, which may need separate parts.
- Check exactly what the kit includes, as contents vary by part number.
