Complete Strut Assemblies: When to Replace and Why Pairs Matter

Evergreen Auto Parts and Components > Tech Center > Technical Education > Complete Strut Assemblies: When to Replace and Why Pairs Matter
Oct 14, 2026 Posted by: evergreenparts Technical Education

A complete strut assembly combines the strut, coil spring, upper mount and bearing in one unit. It installs faster than rebuilding a strut and replaces every worn component at once.

Signs of Worn Struts

  • Excessive bouncing or poor body control.
  • Nose dive under braking.
  • Fluid leaking from the strut body.
  • Clunking from the upper mount.
  • Uneven tire wear.

Why Replace in Pairs

Replacing struts on both sides of the axle keeps handling and ride height balanced. A new strut on one side and a worn strut on the other can make the vehicle pull or feel unstable.

Installation Tips

  • Tighten fasteners to specification with the vehicle at ride height where required.
  • Inspect sway bar links and control arm bushings.
  • Check wheel alignment after installation.
