Conversion Gasket Sets

GM 6.2L and 6.5L Detroit Diesel
The 6.5L, and the 6.2L before it, are older indirect-injection designs, and most engines still on the road have high miles. Heat is its biggest enemy. When rebuilding one, check the heads and block for cracks, make sure the cooling system and fan are working properly, and replace every gasket and seal you disturb. A good reseal can keep these trucks working for years.
6.6L Duramax® V8: LB7, LLY, LBZ and LMM
Duramax® engines are identified by the 8th digit of the VIN: 1 = LB7 (2001–2004), 2 = LLY (2004–2006), D = LBZ (2006–2007) and 6 = LMM (2007–2010). Check the VIN before ordering to make sure you get the right set.
- Head gaskets. Failures are usually tied to added power, high boost or a serious overheat. Find and fix the cause first, or the new gasket will be at risk too.
- Exhaust manifold and up-pipe joints. Constant heat cycling can cause leaks, ticking noises and soot marks around the manifolds.
- Valve cover, oil pan and front cover. Age and heat harden seals and lead to slow oil leaks.
- Rear main seal. A common source of oil drips at the bell housing on high-mileage trucks.
Which Duramax® set? 8-10466 covers 2001–2004 trucks, and 8-10466-1 covers 2004–2010. For 2004 models, use the VIN code and the eCatalog to confirm the correct set.
What Eversealed™ Technology Brings to the Job
- Sealing designed for diesel cylinder pressure, matched to each engine.
- Heat-resistant sealing where it is needed most.
- Set coverage so you replace the gaskets and seals you disturb during the job.
Installation Tips
- Do not reuse torque-to-yield head bolts. They stretch on installation and will not clamp the same way twice. See Why Torque-to-Yield Bolts Should Not Be Reused.
- Check flatness on both heads and the block deck before assembly.
- Replace rusted or broken exhaust studs. A new gasket on old, stretched hardware will leak again.
- While the heads are off, look at other wear parts too. See What Else to Replace While the Head Is Off.
Find the Right Set
